As an educational charity the Society of Bookbinders is committed to the provision and furtherance of education in all fields of hand bookbinding.

Our stated aim is to, 'advance education for the public benefit in all aspects of bookbinding, in particular, but not exclusively by, the collection, collation, evaluation and organised dissemination of craft and technical information.'

Most of the society's activities are geared towards the organisation of events which either directly provide instruction and education for members, or raise the public's awareness of bookbinding in general.

An Education & Training Committee (E&T) oversees the society's biennial Seminar and the production of tutorial and documentary DVDs. E&T have also devised a Certificates of Competence scheme with the aim of setting recognised technical standards of craftsmanship.
